Katalyst probably doesn’t need any help from me in trying to promote his new album to any of you music heads out there, as he’s been well known throughout the Australian music scene for more then five years now… But I’m going to add one more trophy to his mantle. Hearing the soul coming form Steve Spacek’s words on the first, and my favourite, track How About Us, eased me into the journey nicely. The fact that Katalyst has pulled off using so many feature artists on his album is a credit to his finally tuned ear. Sometimes too many people on an album can create a mess but beautiful contributions from Mat McHugh of the Beautiful girls, Joe Volk and Katie Noonan added depth to each of their tracks, while the funk was enhanced on tracks like Say What You Feel featuring Stephanie Mckay and Step Up featuring Ru C.L. Here Katalyst could blast away on his horn samples and ride on his fat drum loops.

Most importantly though is the message that is trying to be conveyed through this album. Every track has a message to heed whether it’s social, political, ethical or moral. What’s Happening both asks a question and gives possible answers to the many issues that face us today. Nice.
